Marine livelihoods, as defined by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), refer to the various ways in which coastal and marine ecosystems support human well-being, through the provision of goods and services. These livelihoods are linked to the sustainable use of marine resources, such as fish, shellfish, seaweed, and other marine products, on which communities depend for food, income, cultural practices, and overall sustenance.
For example, one analysis found that restoration projects create an average of 15 jobs for every million dollars invested.
