This metric indicates whether the organization has undertaken marine biodiversity assessment activities, before the investment takes place and at the end of the reporting period.

Marine biodiversity assessments help investors evaluate the impact of their investments, while adhering to international frameworks and guidelines that ensure responsible management of marine ecosystems.

Organizations are recommended to follow international standards and guidelines applicable to the marine ecosystems they are operating in, such as the Convention on Biological Diversity guidelines; IUCN Red List and Regional Assessments; OSPAR indicators; BIOcean 5D Marine biodiversity assessment and prediction across spatial, temporal and human scales, a 2024 framework for marine biodiversity assessment developed by an international taskforce and published by Lenfest Ocean Program in 2024; the European Union’s Marine Strategy Framework Directive; as well as a 2024 harmonization study by the European Commission’s Joint Research Center regarding biodiversity monitoring and assessment methodologies for European marine ecosystems.
